Cobrana 2020 “Vino de Villa de Congosto” is the fifth vintage of this cuvé from the assembly of old vines located in the town that gives this wine its name.
Vineyards with a mixture of reds and whites varieties, as is common to find in the old vineyards in this area of Bierzo, mostly Mencía and other old local varieties (about 25% Doña Blanca, Palomino and Godello, Alicante Bouschet and Estaladiña).
Located in Bierzo Alto, Cobrana is a small town belonging to the Municipality of Congosto, bordering the Designation of Origin. With 750m of altitude and an interesting blue slate soil degraded into red clay, it is one of the later ripening areas of the Bierzo, with a fresher and crisper profile than the valley.
Fermentation with 100% whole bunches in a 5000L capacity wooden open tank, we make a kind of local old-style vinification, co-fermenting red and white varieties in a long maceration in which we try to not degrade the skin, rather than with the fermentation itself.
Cobrana is a wine with a light but vibrant texture, crystalline colour and intense nose of red fruits, sour strawberry and raspberry, with a balsamic background of mint notes, which makes it fresh and elegant with a nice and precise balance on the mouth.
