In 1983, Miguel Inaraja acquired Monte La Reina, restoring its 19th-century neo-Gothic palace. The family, once dedicated to farming, saw the region’s potential for vineyards.

Over time, they expanded their vision, creating their own winery for high-quality wines. By 2004, Monte La Reina bottled its first vintage, marking the beginning of a new chapter. Today, Monte La Reina is a young, modern, and dynamic winery, home to a multidisciplinary team committed to excellence.

The winery, built with natural materials, blends seamlessly into the landscape. Inspired by the natural beauty of Monte La Reina, the architect, Jesús Juárez, conceived the structure as a giant camera, capturing the landscape each day. The building’s façade reflects the elements of a camera, with a viewfinder, flash, and shutter, a tribute to the ever-changing magic of the land. Partially buried, it maintains ideal winemaking temperatures.

A Winery Rooted in Terroir

The climate and topography of Monte La Reina play a crucial role in shaping the character of its vineyards. The estate is located along the Duero River banks, where the soils and river moisture nurture the vineyards.

A continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers, combined with altitudes around 750 meters and strong temperature variations between day and night, allows the grapes to mature slowly and evenly. This results in wines with excellent ripeness, intense aromas, and a beautifully balanced expression.

Monte La Reina is also home to some of Spain’s oldest vines, over 100 years old. Thanks to the sandy soils of Toro, these vineyards survived the phylloxera plague that devastated European vines in the late 19th century. The ungrafted vines, planted on their own roots, continue to produce grapes of exceptional quality, used for the winery’s high-end wines.
