ROC is the very first wine of Veronica Ortega’s project, first produced in 2010 – the wine that marked the beginning of her life in Bierzo.
It comes from two very old plots of Mencía in Valtuille de Abajo. The vines, around 90–100 years old, grow on clay-sandy soils with high sand content, which gives Mencía a more floral and elegant aromatic profile, along with greater precision and definition on the palate.
ROC is made with 100% whole clusters, spontaneously fermented in a 5,000 L open wooden vat. Vinification is handled entirely by hand, and the wine is aged for just over a year in French oak barrels.
The result is a serious, elegant and fresh Mencía with marked personality. It combines the mineral character of Bierzo with notes of balsamic, violet and licorice. On the palate, it shows red fruit, a fine and defined tannic structure, and a long, persistent finish.
